The Department of Social Work, at Tribhuvan University was created in 2014. Since its inception, the department is able to successfully implement its MSW and PhD courses. Over the years, various academic modules of direct social work practices and classroom learning for skills development in social work have been incorporated in its teaching and learning. Department of Social Work has also been instrumental in the development of social work education, learning and practices in Nepal since its beginning. The program has expanded its practice, learning and teaching base to a next level. After completing its first threshold in establishing social work education at higher education level, it is seeking to expand on its knowledge base.

The Department of Social Work is all set to initiate a publication of the journal of social work.  This journal would serve as a leading multidisciplinary academic social work journal in Nepal. It will cover every aspect of social work, with papers reporting on research, discussing practices, and examining principles and theories. It will help extend knowledge base that would be read by social work educators, researchers, practitioners and managers who wish to keep up to date with theoretical and empirical developments in the field of social work in Nepal. In its publication it hopes to cover a multidisciplinary field of interests that would include perspectives from various streams of social sciences. We believe that the articles published in the journal will help in developing understanding on social problems and contribute to problem solving techniques in social work practice.
